The school delivers the new Junior Cycle Framework which places students at the centre of the educational experience enabling them to actively participate in their communities and in society and to be resourceful and confident learners in all aspects and stages of their lives. There is focus on developing skills needed for life beyond the classroom and on nurturing wellbeing. Different types of learning will be reported on and there will be an increased focus on the learners developing skills as well as knowledge.
The latest teaching, learning and assessment strategies ensures a focus on critical thinking, communication and creativity. Swords Community College also offer a sports curriculum and other extra-curricular activities, such as Enterprise, Arts & Crafts, Music & Drama and Debating.
Classroom-Based Assessments (CBAs)
CBAs are a core part of Ireland's reformed Junior Cycle, where students demonstrate skills through teacher-facilitated projects, presentations, or portfolios in 2nd and 3rd year, contributing to their overall Junior Cycle Profile of Achievement (JCPA) alongside their final exams, encouraging creative thinking, research, and application of knowledge in subjects.
